Golden Triangle in 3 Days or 4 Days: Which Should You Choose?
Short answer: both cover the same three cities and the same headline monuments. The fourth day does not add a place — it removes the day where Jaipur sightseeing and a five-hour drive to Delhi are squeezed together. If your dates are fixed and short, three days works. If you have the choice, four is the more comfortable trip.

On a golden triangle tour 3 days, the last day is Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, the City Palace and Jantar Mantar — and then five hours in a car back to Delhi. On the four-day version, Jaipur is a full day of its own and the drive home is the day after.

What the Fourth Day Actually Buys
1. Jaipur stops being a race
Amber Fort alone deserves two hours. Add the City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal and Jal Mahal and you have a full day’s sightseeing. On three days that list is compressed and then followed by the longest drive of the trip. Jaipur is the city travellers most often say they wish they had given more time, and this is why.
2. A proper Old Delhi
The three-day route covers New Delhi’s monuments. The four-day adds the older city: Jama Masjid, the cycle-rickshaw ride through the spice and silver lanes of Chandni Chowk, the Lotus Temple. For most visitors that half day is the most vivid part of Delhi, not the monuments.
3. A break in the longest drive
The Agra to Jaipur leg is the longest of the trip. The four-day itinerary breaks it at the Abhaneri step well, which turns an unbroken haul into two shorter stretches with something worth seeing in between. What Three Days Does Better
Two honest points in its favour.
It is cheaper, because a night of accommodation and a day of car and guide come out of the cost. And, as the itineraries are published, the three-day actually includes one monument the four-day does not: Itmad-ud-Daulah, the Baby Taj, sits in the three-day’s Agra morning, while the four-day gives that time to Abhaneri on the road. If you want both, say so when you enquire — the Baby Taj is a short stop and easily added to either.

Practical Notes for Either
- The Taj Mahal closes every Friday for prayers. A three-day trip has less room to absorb that, so dates matter more on the shorter itinerary.
- Both start and end in Delhi, with pickup from the airport, your hotel or the station.
